Opening Weekend In The Books!

Sep 17, 2025

Opening weekend is in the books, and Alex Posani is here to give you the rundown on a historic weekend of Mountain Kings hockey. Let’s go!

It may be a new season, but this Mountain Kings team still has a flair for the dramatic. The Mountain Kings notched themselves a come from behind and overtime win on Saturday and a down to the wire shutdown game on Sunday. If this weekend is any indication, you can expect a lot of exciting hockey at Delta Dental Arena this season! The Mountain Kings were also featured on WMUR this week…catch the segment here:

This season brings many new faces, but it was the familiar friends who helped seal the deal. Second year forward Alex Gelhar had two goals in Saturday’s game, and third year forward Tanner Anctil netted the game winner on Sunday’s game. Goaltending continues to be a strong point for this Mountain Kings team. Gavin Weeks and Ryan Mitchell both played strong games and helped propel the Mountain Kings to a series sweep against the Generals.

After winning both games against the Generals, the Mountain Kings are 2-0 to start the season. This is the best start in a Mountain Kings season history after two games. The Mountain Kings also debuted their new Columbia Blue home uniforms featuring Delta Dental, and the new name of the Mountain Kings, Delta Dental Arena, was the talk of the weekend! In case you haven’t heard, the old home of Mountain Kings hockey has a new name, Delta Dental Arena. Northeast Delta Dental signed a long term partnership with the Mountain Kings, and we have a great future with them in store.

The Mountain Kings head to Philly for two and then to Blaine for the NAHL Showcase. They’ll be back on October 3rd and 4th for a series against the Danbury Hat Tricks. Be sure and listen to Mountain Kings Catch-Up on WKXL or nhtalkradio.com on Thursday, October 2nd, or any time online, for a fun weekend preview.
